Today’s daily smiling faces travel photo is of two of my favourite Korean students that I teach at my Elementary School in Anseong, South Korea. They were posing for a photo during the English Festival Song Performance Competition. The competition featured students of all grades singing English children’s and pop music songs to a delighted audience. These two girls did not perform but enjoyed watching the performance. They both speak English very well and always study diligently in my classroom.
The girl wearing the yellow hooding will soon be going to the United States to study. I’m not sure what English program she will be taking but it could be very similar to Kaplan English classes in the USA. Regardless, she told me she is very excited about heading abroad to study for the first time. I’m sure going to the United States will be a great experience for her and when she returns to Korea she’ll have most certainly improved her English skills while having a new perspective having lived and studied overseas.
The cute girl wearing the pink shirt told me she loves to sing English songs, and was disappointed she didn’t hear about the contest earlier, so that she could have prepared one of her own. With only two months left to teach in Korea I’m starting to feel somewhat sentimental about leaving soon. Although I’m very excited to be going on a backpacking trip around the world, I know that I’ll miss living in Korea.
The English competition was a reminder that my time at this particular school has been overall very positive. I loved watching the students passionately singing and displaying their enthusiasm for learning English. The true highlight of the day was the performance of my co-teacher Jerry who is from Florida. He covered an Elvis song and with his animated performance captured the entire crowd and had them rocking.
