This image was taken at this year’s Muscat Festival in Oman just a few weeks ago. The festival is a celebration of Omani culture and heritage, showcasing the traditional crafts, cuisine and original way of life of the nomadic people.
These three performers were part of a theatrical and dramatic display of armed combat which was performed with considerable flair and panache. It included singing, chanting and of course music. The musicians were intent on their performance but on this occasion when the lens was directed at them the drummer took a moment to smile broadly. The genuine delight in his smile is infectious and displayed his obvious enjoyment.
