My Korean students, a veritable species of alien that I will never understand. Their energy is limitless, despite the intense stress and long hours of studying that dominate their lives.
They have a very unusual trait, it seems. They love having their picture taken, especially if they’re the ones taking the picture. But whatever you do, don’t take a picture of them when they haven’t arranged their hair and faces! You’ll have a bunch of students fighting for the camera to erase the picture.
These girls, during a closing ceremony in the sports hall, asked me to take a picture of them. When I readied the camera they started asking each other if they looked okay. 10 minutes later I took the shot. They didn’t like the picture. I erased it, took the picture again, was forced to erase the picture again, retook the picture…After God knows how many attempts I gave up and kept the last picture I took, much to the dismay of my students.
I’m not exactly sure what they were expecting. I promised them I’d Photoshop the picture. They seemed satisfied, although, the final product wasn’t exactly what they had in mind.
