Today’s smiling faces travel photo is of Nomadic Samuel smiling while riding an elephant that appears to also have a big grin - Chiang Mai, Thailand. This retreat I visited just outside of Chiang Mai was quite a special experience. I got to experience elephant training on a private solo tour. Normally there is a small group but on this particular day nobody else was there to attend. I gave my Thai trainer a quick tutorial on how to use my dSLR and I thought he did a fantastic job of capturing this shot.

Ha, no I didn’t. Did you?
Awww…. elephants are the best.
They truly are wonderful animals.
Ha, this is a pretty epic shot!
It looks like the elephant was enjoying himself just as much as you were.

LOL, I hope so! Either that or it thought I was about to give it a banana
How’s Korea treating you these days?
I doubt the elephant is smiling. Those places in Chiang Mai are terrible to the elephants. More people need to be aware of that. Even the ones that supposedly “rescue” them.
Elephant abuse and maltreatment is certainly an issue but it’s those who do things right (like this place) are worth supporting.
Have you ever had a elephant ride? Its just an enjoyable ride.
I have! They are very enjoyable
My daughter and son loved it! Thanks for sharing!
